The Foolish, Timid Rabbit Retelling

There once was a rabbit who lived in a jungle that was owned by the lions. All throughout his life, he was known as foolish and timid. Nobody commended him any respect at all. Just a couple of days ago, the lion who was in charge of the jungle decided to take over the rabbit's land. The rabbit was forced to relocate his home because of this. The only land that was open was a small sliver that housed a coconut tree above. At first, the rabbit thought that he was lucky enough to secure shelter in a good location. However, as the days continued, the rabbit found out why nobody else took the spot. During random intervals, coconuts would fall down, disrupting this sleep. After not being able to sleep for several days, the rabbit hatched his plan.

At first, the rabbit called for a meeting with his friends and family. At the meeting, he exclaimed that the world was ending and that the Earth was splitting underneath them. He sowed the seeds of despair within the group. After the meeting, the rabbits began to panic. They began to tell every animal around them that the world was ending. As the rumors continued to spread, the lion inevitability heard about it. Considering his peace was interrupted by this rumor, he decided to confront the source of the commotion.

The lion traveled all the way to the rabbit's land. He began to angrily confront the rabbit, questioning him as to why he thought the world was ending. The rabbit began to tell him a convoluted story about a vision that he saw every time he slept under this spot. He implored the lion to give it a try and that once he fell asleep, he would be the visions. Eventually, the lion decided that falling asleep wouldn't be too much of a problem. An hour passed and the lion fell asleep. The rabbit made sure that the lion was asleep before he would fulfill his plan. Unbeknownst to the lion, the rabbit had put him in a spot where a coconut would fall. The rabbit shook the tree and the coconut began to fall. The lion didn't even know what hit him. He was killed in an instant. After confirming that the lion was no longer of this world, the rabbit began to chuckle.

"Are you sure I'm the fool in this story?"

Authors Note: I decided that I wanted to base this story off of "the Foolish, Timid Rabbit" because I found the story interesting. I wanted to change up the story a bit and make it seem more exciting. I figured that having a revenge story where the little man wins would be interesting.

  1. Hi Brandon. This was a fun short story to read. I have always been fan of these quick stories with clever endings as a kid, so it was cool to see your rendition of the story. The only question I was what specifically you changed from the original story. I did not read the original story before reading your story, so I did not know what you meant by making the story more exciting. Other than that, great story!

  2. Hello, Brandon!
I really liked your story! I agree with you that it is interesting- it was very easy to read. I like the part where the tricky rabbit got the lion to fall asleep under the coconut tree, and his clever plan to get his family to tell the lions that the world was ending. I would read this if it was longer too!

  3. Hello Brandon,
I really enjoyed your fun, short story. I think it would be a good story to tell children and it holds some learning lessons like a fable. My favorite part is the very last line, I think that it cleverly ties the story together and ends it on a fitting note. It kind of reminds me of the famous story with a hare and a tortoise racing in a sense.
